Happy 24th Birthday Cass!
I was up at 5am getting a steaming pot of coffee from the dining
room and I really wished I arranged this every day of our trek. At each of the Everest Summit Lodges, they
serve these neat small pancake-shaped, slightly sweet buns and they are so
delicious. We’ve just been devouring
them and leaving the toast behind. At any
rate, with a filling breakfast in our bellies, we headed for the airport… all
25 steps away! It was fun watching the
planes land and take off.
The flight back to Kathmandu took no time at all and Dinesh
was there right on time to transfer us back to the Yak and Yeti. We decided to toughen ourselves up and head
back into the Thamel area again; more worrying about beggars! It was much better to walk with purpose, even
if we were totally lost. If you stop to
take pictures or consult a map, then you are a target. So I took pictures on the go.
One way many trekkers celebrate a successful trek is to have
a drink at Rum Doodle. It’s a really
neat place filled with foot-shaped coasters signed by trekkers and hung up to
add to the collection of about a bazillion or so. We decided to have a double celebration; a
successful trek and Cass’ birthday. I
had a Himalayan punch, just like the one last night.
